A PRAYER TO ALMIGHTY GOD,
and
A PETITION TO UCLA CHANCELLOR GENE BLOCK AND PROVOST SCOTT WAUGH:

Dear Sirs:

We the undersigned, respectfully express our shock and dismay, at the anti-Christian discrimination

by UCLA Biology Professor Pamela Hurley, who has directly refused the rights of graduating student Christina Popa,

who wants to say "I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," in her own pre-graduation speech,

as other students are permitted to write their own speeches, and Christina would be allowed if she didn't mention Jesus.

Instead, Dr. Hurley deliberately censored Christina's proposed speech, and wrote back saying

"UCLA is a public university where the doctrine of separation of church and state is observed," and proposed a censored

version of Christina's proposed speech, deleting any reference to Jesus Christ.  When Christina objected,

Dr. Hurley threatened, "If you prefer, Christina, I can read none of what you wrote.  I am very sorry that this is a problem for you."

We pray that UCLA will allow academic liberty, and protect and defend Christina's First Amendment right to free speech.

We pray that UCLA will stop censoring students' right to freedom of religious expression.

We pray that Dr. Hurley will repent, or that she will face discipline by the UCLA Chancellor and Provost themselves.

We pray that Christina Popa will be allowed the right she earned, to give thanks to Jesus Christ at her own graduation.

We the undersigned, petition UCLA and we pray to God in Jesus' name.  Amen."

Add your "Amen" by signing below, and WE WILL POST YOUR COMMENTS about
UCLA censoring Christina Popa and prohibiting her from thanking Jesus Christ.

Please let Christina give thanks to Jesus Christ, and stop this anti-Christian professor from censoring her speech!

Amy - McMinnville, oregon

Please allow this student the right to say what she desires to say during her portion of graduation. This young lady has earned the right to her few moments of free speech. Please remember people like my husband and I who have five kids getting ready for college are observing you. We want our children to get an education not indoctrination. This student has paid her dues financially to your school and in time and hard work. Please be respectful of her rights. Thanks so much Amy Coburn

Maureen - North Adams,, MA

the words "separation of church and state" do not appear in our constitutuion and your interprectation of that concept violates freedom of religion.

Jerry - El Segundo, ca

Jesus name say it loud and clear.Liberals hate this. We have a right to free speech!!!

Anna - Manchester, TN

This young lady has every right according to the constitution of freedom of speech. Why don't you take the prayer rugs away from the muslims? Anna Smith

Steve - Rockville, MD

The apparent claim of some lawful basis for this censorship of individual expression of religion represents an ignorance that, while widespread in the USA these days, seems out of place coming from a university professor. UCLA, heal thyself!

David - Jackson, Georgia

I am so tired of the farcical "seperation of church and state" comment. People throw that idiotic misstatement out every time they want to justify their trashing of the Constition and have absolutely no idea where that phrase originated or what the Constition actually says.

Scotty - Garner, Kentucky

I think it is a shame that this professor thinks she has more rights than this Christian student.

Cecilia - Fullerton, ca

I'm Sadden to hear that though our nation was founded on christian beliefs, college graduates are not allowed to Thank God for the help he has granted them to finishing school. :( What has this world come too..

Juliana - North Hills, CA

Please allow Christina to give thanks to Jesus Christ her Savior.

Lynette - Dora, AL

This is an outrage!! Christina Popa should be allowed to thank Jesus publicly in her speech. If there is so much respect for diversity this should never have been an issue! What a ridiculous attempt by Pamela Hurley to justify refusing Chrisina's request. Pamela Hurley needs to walk her talk about respecting diversity!!

Magdalena - Portland, Oregon

This is discrimination against Christians everywhere. If she had said another religious icon like "mohammad" or "buddha" would she have had to change her speech at all? I somethink not! When has did it become offensive to say "Jesus" in america? This Country was founded on Christian beliefs...yes I know Obama has forgotten this, but it's what our country thrived and grew on! I know this isn't a big deal for UCLA, but for this young lady, Jesus Christ is everything and she can't take that major part of her life out as easily as you think(even though I'm sure UCLA has tried it's hardest in the years she's been a student there).

Jessica - Davis, CA

This is discrimination.

Samantha - Bellingham, wa

Complete and utter discrimination. Refusing to allow someone to thank the most influential person in her life for her accomplishments is very troubling. Is this professor's rubric for reading the student's statements solely based on if she agrees with them or not? The desire not to offend ANYONE is a winless fight. I am offended when people do not thank God for their lives. To satisfy everyone's minds is to be silent. That is the worst censorship of all.

Amanda - Houston, TX

It is very sad to see that America's freedom of speech is slowly being taken away.
