Jonathan Phelps And Gordon Klingenschmitt, Anti-Gay Pundits, Express Differing LGBT Stances

November 30, 2012 by Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt

Two prominent right-wing pundits faced off on “The David Pakman Show,” expressing different, if similarly antagonistic, stances on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Pakman featured the Westboro Baptist Church‘s Jonathan Phelps and former Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, who has previously claimed that LGBT people could be “cured” via exorcism, in the Nov. 28 installment.

Interestingly, Phelps slammed Klingenschmitt’s exorcism claims as “nonsensical,” noting “there’s no example, since the Apostles or the Lord Jesus Christ, directing an evil spirit out of any person.” He went on to note, “That special hocus-pocus, with the head spinning and the green pea soup flying out of their mouths…there’s no Bible authority for that.”

On the other hand, Klingenschmitt criticized the Westboro Baptist Church’s well-documented picketing of military funerals as being in bad taste.

“Having served in the military, I don’t know any soldier who died for homosexual rights,” he said. “We should be protesting the Obama administration and their policies, but not our beloved soldiers…we should be honoring those who sacrificed so greatly for that privilege to have free speech and free religion.”

He concludes, “The Bible never uses the word ‘fag.'”
